My name is Joaquin, and I’m the person behind DJ OnWater
I’ve been fascinated with DJing since I made my first mix tape in 9th grade. What started as a teenage passion evolved into a decade-long journey through the music festival world, where I built and managed events ranging from intimate 2,000-person gatherings to massive 100,000+ attendee festivals. You might have heard of a few: Rock the Bells, Coachella, and Electric Daisy Carnival.
Here’s where it gets interesting – I spent years in the fitness world, training athletes and searching for the perfect soundtracks to support their performance. When I couldn’t find exactly what I needed, I decided to create it myself. That’s how Coach Joaquin Fitness DJ was born, combining all my music and equipment knowledge into custom DJ mixes for everything from boulder competitions to NCAA championships.
But weddings? That became my passion when I helped a friend in college. Having all the festival equipment and know-how, I was happy to support their special day while keeping their budget reasonable. From that first wedding, I was hooked on crafting and creating those special moments for couples – just like I did for festival-goers, but more intimate and infinitely more meaningful.
What Makes This Different
One of my most memorable experiences was a destination wedding where I got to bridge cultural differences through music. Watching attendees from different backgrounds come together on the dance floor, hearing all types of musical flavors blend in a skillful and energetic way – that’s when I knew this was exactly where I belonged.
But my event experience goes far beyond weddings. I’ve been the DJ and announcer for PAC-12 Cross Country Championships, NCAA D2 Regional Championships, corporate product launches, and everything in between. Whether I’m hyping up runners at the Portland Twilight Track and Field meet or getting the dance floor packed at a corporate celebration, the same principle applies: read the room, match the energy, and create moments people remember.
I’d say what sets me apart is my diverse event experience and how intentional I am when working with any client. For wedding couples, it’s really important to me that you hear your favorite songs AND that your guests feel they can completely cut loose on the dance floor. For corporate events, I understand the balance between professionalism and fun. For sports events, I know how to amp up athletes while keeping the energy appropriate for families in the stands.
Beyond the music, I love collaborating with couples, event planners, and corporate teams to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible. I’m that person who can come up with a solution to any problem that pops up – whether it’s a last-minute playlist change at a wedding or audio issues at a corporate presentation.

1. The Vision Call – We jump on a call so I can learn about your wedding vision and what kind of celebration you’re dreaming of.
2. Timeline Creation – I create a detailed timeline of your wedding day so I know exactly what to prepare and when.
3. Music Collaboration – We share a playlist (usually Spotify) where you, your partner, and even your wedding party can add songs. This helps me understand your music tastes and what kind of party your guests are expecting.
4. Check-in Calls – Leading up to the big day, I like to have a few calls to ensure the flow is perfect and there are no surprises.
5. Team Collaboration – I’m always happy to work closely with your wedding planner or coordinator. We’re all on the same team!
